BPO Staffing & Employment

Support, operations, moderation and technical teams built locally — recruitment, EPF registration, attendance, payroll and day-to-day HR managed as one function. Payroll, statutory contributions and personnel records are made to work as a single process before the first hire starts, not reconciled later.

Common questions

Which roles should we hire first, and in what order? +

Sequence by which bottleneck each hire unblocks, not top-down from an org chart. Usually you need someone who can handle local matters and someone who can lead before you need volume. The classic symptom of getting it wrong: plenty of staff, nobody who can decide.

Direct employment, outsourcing or consultants? +

Decide per role. Long-term, core roles where knowledge should accumulate suit direct employment; short-term, volatile or highly specialised work suits outsourcing or consultants. Applying one model to everything usually shows its cost about six months in.

What is the talent market and salary range like? +

Skill distribution and pay vary widely by role and seniority, so treating it as one flat "low-cost market" tends to mislead. Look at supply density and hiring channels for your specific roles rather than a national average.

What is EPF and what does the employer have to do? +

It is the statutory employee provident fund, with employer registration and periodic contribution obligations. It is not paperwork you catch up on after payday — it should be wired into payroll before the first employee starts.

We are taking over an existing team — what should we check first? +

Three things: whether contribution records are continuous and complete, whether personnel files match who is actually working, and whether any employment disputes or severance obligations are outstanding. Discovered after handover, all three are already yours.

Does the team have to be in Colombo? +

No, but run two numbers first: supply density for your target roles in that location, and the added coordination cost of managing at distance. Lower salaries do not automatically mean lower total cost.

What has to be ready before an employee starts? +

At minimum: the payroll calculation basis, statutory contribution registration, and personnel file templates. If any one of those is retrofitted after onboarding, the first payroll run goes wrong — and a botched first payday costs a new team’s trust.

When should shift coverage and quality monitoring be designed? +

From day one, not once the team is running. Coverage, escalation paths and quality standards are part of how the team works; added later they read as extra control and meet far more resistance.
